The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are the newest and strongest phones from Google, but they won't stay that way for long. There are rumors about the Google Pixel 8a, which means these top phones might be replaced soon. But they'll still be very powerful for a bit longer. The Google Pixel 9 is coming, but not right away.

When it arrives, it's going to be big news. We don't know much about the Pixel 9 yet, but it seems like Google is planning some big changes. If the rumors are true, we can expect a new look and some cool new AI features.

Here's what we know about the upcoming Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL!

The Google Pixel 8 came out in September 2023 and was available in October. So, it's likely that Google will do the same this year at a Made by Google event in the fall.

Google usually launches its main Pixel phones in October, so it's safe to think it will happen again this year. Things could change, but for now, it looks like October 2024 is when you can get a Pixel 9.

Price

We don't know how much the Pixel 9 will cost yet. Last year's Pixels got $100 more expensive — $699 for the Pixel 8 and $999 for the Pixel 8 Pro. We don't think Google will do the same thing again this year.

But if Google adds a lot of AI stuff to the new phones, they might be more expensive. We'll have to wait and see. Also, Google might release three Pixel 9 versions this year, including the Pixel 9 Pro XL. So, the prices could change.

Design

It's been a while since Google changed the design of the Pixel. So, the Pixel 9 will probably look different. Leaked pictures of the Pixel 9 show some big design changes.

The regular Pixel 9 will have a different camera setup. Instead of a bar, the camera will have rounded edges. The Pixel 9 will also have flat sides instead of curved ones. It will be a bit smaller than the Pixel 8, with a 6.03-inch display.

The Pixel 9 Pro will look similar to the regular Pixel 9, but it will have three rear cameras instead of two. It will also have a slightly bigger 6.1-inch display.

There will also be a Pixel 9 Pro XL, which will have a 6.5-inch display. It will be similar to the Pixel 9 Pro but bigger.

If the rumors are true, this will be the first time Google has used its "XL" branding since the Google Pixel 4 XL in 2019. It's an interesting change and could mean the end of the Pixel A-Series.

Google Pixel 9: software and updates

Usually, when new top Pixel phones come out, they also come with a new version of Android. So, we expect the Pixel 9 to launch with Android 15. But what else can we expect?

One new thing might be "Adaptive Touch." This feature adjusts how sensitive your touchscreen is based on what's happening around you. For example, if it's cold and you're wearing gloves, it might make the screen more sensitive. Or if there's water on the screen, it'll adjust to prevent accidental touches. Other phones, like the OnePlus 12, have something similar called Aqua Touch.

But the really big deal is the AI (Artificial Intelligence) features. Google has been working with AI for a while now, and many people are excited about something called Gemini coming to smartphones.

The Pixel 8 couldn't get Gemini because of hardware limits, so people think the Pixel 9 might be the first to get it. There are rumors about a new AI assistant called "Pixie." If this happens, the Pixel 9 will probably need more RAM to handle it. We'll have to wait and see what the specs say in the next few months.
